Our recap of the NYMM Annual Conference!

NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Music Month Conference

NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Music Month Conference ⚡️

We had an absolute BLAST at the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment  Annual Conference for New York Music Month on June 5th!

The day was packed with creative talent, networking, cookies, freebies, insights, star guests, and MORE!

Attendance is FREE, so if you missed out this year, mark your calendar for next year! And don't forget—New York Music Month isn’t over yet! Check out MOME’s website for more events!

Here are my biggest takeaways from the conference:

  • You can get FREE mentoring from none other than American rapper and actor, Joey Bada$$, through his company Impact MENtorship! How cool is that? I had NO idea these programs existed! If you’re looking to break into the music industry or need guidance from pros, you should check them out! This program is for men of color.

  • If you’re a woman of color seeking support in your career and personal journey, Sophia Chang’s company Unlock Her Potential is for you—and it’s FREE! Navigating your career alone can be daunting, so take advantage of this amazing opportunity!

  • Lachi Music hosted a fantastic talk on neurodivergence, disability, and mental health in the music industry. These often overlooked topics were given the spotlight they deserve! One quote that really struck me was, “What is authenticity? Authenticity is accepting the deepest part of yourself that society tells you to hide!” Loving and accepting ourselves helps us excel in both personal and professional spheres.

  • Billy Porter and Emil Wilbekin shared the stage for an incredible discussion on fashion, show business, and their journey as black queer creators. Their stories highlighted the importance of educating ourselves on the challenges these communities face and becoming better allies.

The day was overflowing with great advice, insights, free snacks, and endless networking opportunities. It was an absolute pleasure to attend, and all for FREE! Thanks, MOME! I’ll be back next year!
