Industry Veteran Charlie Collier to Receive the Center for Communication’s 41st Annual Stanton Award
New York, July 10, 2024 – The Center for Communication will honor Charlie Collier, President, Roku Media, with its annual Frank N. Stanton Award for Excellence in Communication on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Essex House in New York City. The Stanton singles out individuals who are charting the industry’s future and who share the Center’s commitment to an inclusive and diverse media. Now in its 41st year, the prestigious award is named after the Center’s founder, broadcasting pioneer and longtime CBS president Dr. Frank Stanton.
Collier joined Roku in October 2022 as President, Roku Media. An industry veteran with more than 25 years of media leadership experience, Collier began his career in advertising sales and evolved into general management, programming, strategy, and digital. Immediately prior to Roku, Collier served as CEO, FOX Entertainment, where he was responsible for FOX’s holistic entertainment vision and business leadership. Prior to joining FOX, Collier was President and General Manager of AMC, SundanceTV, and AMC Studios, overseeing the creative and business operations of all three divisions and launching such award-winning series as Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, and The Night Manager. Collier previously held leadership roles at Court TV, Oxygen Media, A+E Networks, and TeleRep.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be honoring Charlie with this much-deserved award,” said Center for Communication Chairman Shane Peros, who is Managing Director of Global Partnerships, Media, Entertainment and Distribution for Google. “He is highly respected within the industry for his integrity and forthright leadership. We look forward to celebrating the arc of his career, from his transformative tenures at AMC and FOX to his bold entrepreneurial vision for Roku.”
The Center for Communication educates and inspires students seeking careers in media, with the goal to increase diversity throughout the industry. Funds raised by the annual Stanton celebration sustain the Center’s ongoing career education programs, designed to provide students from under-represented backgrounds with the knowledge, skills, and connections they need to enter the business and succeed in their careers.
The 2024 Stanton celebration is an evening reception that will salute Collier’s extraordinary achievements, celebrate diversity in the media industry, and showcase the Center's talented student community. The list of past Stanton honorees reveals the evolution of media over the past four decades and the trailblazers who forged new path, including Ted Turner, Katharine Graham, Johnny Carson, Bill Paley, and Josh Sapan, who Collier helped honor in 2011, as well as more recent honorees Tina Perry, John Landgraf, Rita Ferro, and Jimmy Pitaro.
"The Center for Communication’s commitment to shaping the next generation of media visionaries is critical. They’re finding, motivating, and nurturing tomorrow's Stantons, Paleys and Turners. The Center’s efforts continue to inspire hope and excitement for our industry’s future,” said Collier. “It’s an honor to be in the company of the many esteemed past honorees. I thank the Center for its recognition.”
